Benefits of New Windows

Cost Savings: With increased energy efficiency, new windows can lead to long-term cost savings on utility bills. The initial investment in replacement windows can be outweighed by the ongoing savings over time.

Enhanced Comfort: Improved insulation not only saves energy but also helps maintain a more consistent and comfortable indoor temperature. This can reduce drafts, cold spots, and condensation, providing a more pleasant living environment.

How to Choose the Right Windows for your Home

01

BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND

Envision your window replacement project being fully complete. Everything has been cleaned up, the installation has passed inspection, and you're ready to enjoy your new windows.

When you first thought about replacing your windows, chances are you had at least one specific reason you embarked on this project.

Perhaps it was to reduce the road noise from a major highway nearby. Or, you wanted maximum protection against potential hurricane damage. Maybe it was to keep those rooms on the side of the house that always seem hotter than the others.

No matter the reason - when you meet with different contractors, make sure the product they are trying to sell you aligns with your goals. Most contractors push one brand and try to convince you that their window is "the best" window. In reality, there's no such thing as the "best window" because circumstances are different for every homeowner and every home.

At My Window and Door Guy, we carry over a dozen brands. We're indifferent to which one you ultimately choose. Our product specialist will work to understand your specific circumstance and goals with the project, and then share with you how the recommended product(s) align with your desired outcome.

02

SEEK EXPERIENCED INSTALLATION SPECIALISTS

At My Window and Door Guy, if we had a choice between a mediocre window with a great installation, or a great window with a mediocre installation, we would choose the mediocre window with great installation every time.

Why? Installing windows is not a handyman type job. Ensuring a proper seal, proper finishing, and proper fastening are keys to having a high performing and long lasting replacement window.

For most contractors, the sales rep will tell you "we have the best installers" or some variation thereof. Chances are, however, the sales rep actually has never met the installers, doesn't know their names, and truly do not know whether they are good or not. The sales rep is just echoing talking points their sales manager taught them.

At My Window and Door Guy, you'll know the names and experience of each person who will be working in and on your home before you choose to do business with us.

03

PREPARE, AND AVOID, COMMON PROBLEMS

Have you ever hired a contractor to work on your home and had a bad experience? Or maybe, you had a great experience. Either way, we advise you take a few minutes before meeting with contractors to think through, and even write down, those things a contractor did or didn't do that made the experience what it was.

Based on our experience, here are some things you should prepare for when deciding who is going to handle your window replacement project.

  • Employees or Sub-Contractors - Hypothetically, if a worker gets hurt while working on your home, you as the homeowner may have more liability if he is a sub-contractor instead of an employee. Other factors include:

    • Control - sub-contractors can not be held, legally, to the same standards as employees. For example, showing up at a given time or the quality of their work.

    • Liens - if your sub-contractors have a payment dispute with the contractor you hired, the sub-contractor has the legal right to place a lien on your property.

My Window and Door Guy will only send employees to your property, no sub-contractors ever.

  • Communication - By far, the most frequent pain-point for homeowners dealing with contractors is their lack of communication. Whether it's answering the phone, updating you on the status, adequately preparing you for what's needed on your part, too often contractors fall short of what most homeowners rightfully expect from their contractor.

    • Unfortunately, most sales reps will tell you just about anything to get you to sign their contract. The best way to determine before hand is to look through their online reviews to see if there is a pattern.

  • Project Coordination - If you have multiple projects going on at the same time, be sure to let your contractors know about them. Getting your house painted, or putting on a new roof? Make sure to get your windows installed before you have those projects done.

  • After Installation Issues - Infrequently and despite your contractor's best efforts, not every installation is perfect. Sometimes a piece of glass gets broken, sometimes drywall needs to be replaced.

    • We recommend: asking for referrals from a prior customer whose installation did NOT go as well. Find out how the contractor handled the situation. Most contractors are happy and glad to provide you references of previous customers who had a great experience. We think its more helpful in evaluating a contractor to learn how they handled things when they didn't go perfect.
